About Central Texas Birth Fund
Central Texas Birth Fund (CTBF) is a community-based maternal health nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to respectful, compassionate, and affirming prenatal, birth, and postpartum care for individuals and families across Central Texas. We serve families and individuals who face financial, geographic, and systemic barriers to care, including those who experience delayed access to traditional obstetric services or who are uninsured or underinsured.

CTBF exists to ensure that pregnancy and birth are supported experiences rather than inaccessible or isolating ones. Through direct services, education, and workforce development, we work to reduce disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes while honoring the autonomy, dignity, and cultural needs of the families we serve.
Our Mission
To advance birth equity in Central Texas by expanding access to community-based prenatal, birth, and postpartum care, providing parent education, supporting care navigation, and training a diverse maternal health workforce to serve communities historically excluded from timely and respectful care.
Our Vision
We envision a Central Texas where every person can access respectful, timely, and culturally responsive pregnancy and postpartum support, regardless of income, background, or location, and where community-based birth care strengthens and complements the broader healthcare system.
Our Purpose
Central Texas Birth Fund exists to close gaps in maternal and infant health care access for low-income, uninsured, and underserved families. Many people in our region face long wait times for hospital-based obstetric care, financial barriers to essential services, or experiences of bias that discourage early and consistent prenatal support. CTBF serves as a bridge — connecting families to care, education, and resources when traditional systems fall short.
Our work is rooted in the understanding that early, continuous, and culturally responsive support improves experiences and outcomes for both parents and babies. By providing community-based alternatives and support, we help families engage in care sooner, stay connected throughout pregnancy and postpartum, and feel informed and empowered in their choices.
What We Do
CTBF supports families and communities through a combination of direct services, education, and workforce development, including:
1
Direct Client Support
Financial assistance for essential supplies and services related to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care, helping reduce out-of-pocket costs that prevent access to care.
2
Midwifery & Doula Care
Community-based prenatal, birth, and postpartum support provided by trained midwives and doulas, offering continuity of care, advocacy, and emotional support.
3
Parent Education
Accessible classes and workshops such as prenatal education, infant care, and CPR/first aid, designed to build confidence, knowledge, and preparedness.
4
Care Navigation & Referrals
Support connecting families to community resources, additional community care providers, and follow-up services that address both health and social needs.
5
Workforce Development
Training and support for birth workers — particularly those from communities of color, rural areas, and low-income backgrounds — to strengthen a diverse and representative maternal health workforce in Central Texas.
How we fit within the Maternal Health System...
CTBF does not replace hospital-based obstetric care. Instead, we serve as a gap-fill and support system for families who struggle to access timely care due to provider shortages, financial constraints, or systemic barriers. By offering early engagement, education, and continuous support, we help ease pressure on an overburdened healthcare system while improving continuity and quality of care for families.

Community-based birth care plays a critical role in supporting healthy pregnancies and informed decision-making. CTBF works alongside medical providers and community partners to ensure families are supported before, during, and after birth.
Our Commitment
CTBF is committed to serving families with respect, compassion, and cultural humility. We believe that access to safe and supportive birth care should not depend on income, insurance status, or background. Our work centers the voices and needs of the communities we serve, and we remain accountable to them as we grow.
Looking ahead...
As we continue to expand our programs and partnerships, Central Texas Birth Fund remains focused on building a more accessible, equitable, and community-centered maternal health landscape — one where families are supported, birth workers are valued, and care systems work together to meet the needs of all.
